Kabwohe Training and Conference Centre / Uganda

Kabwohe Training and Conference centre is found in West Ankole Diocese, Church of Uganda ( Anglican) in East Africa.

Kabwohe Training and Conference Centre is one of Centre registered with Association of Christian Lay Centres in Africa; which is headed  by Rev. Jonah Katoneene, the General Secretary. Its headquarter is in Harare, Zimbabwe. This Centre started in 1985 by West Ankole Diocese with the aim of providing education to all people regardless of their religious differences in providing for facilities for workers refresher courses; Adult education; Literacy campaign for the adults that never got a chance of going to school; Christian education in matters of faith (Christians); uplifting the Christian belief, moral standards, peoples standards of living and development.

Kabwohe Training and Conference Centre is managed by a committee selected by the Diocese after every four years. The present committee is composed of:

This committee was selected in the year 2000, and in reviving the centre under the guidance of the Diocese and Association of Christian Lay Centres in Africs has made a ten year development plan in three phases as follows:

1. 2001 - 2002 (two years)                Short term plan
2. 2001 - 2004 (four years)                Medium term plan
3. 2001 - 2010 (ten years)                  Long-term plan

The following has been done since 2000:

1. Meetings have been held. Five committe meetings and three consultation meetings.
2. We have paid arreas for annual subscription to the Association of Lay Centres in Africa.
3. We have constructed new toilets.
4. We have held courses and conferences at the centre, for example:
    a) Sheema Balokole (Brethren) Conferences
    b) A couse for church workers children.
    c) Clergy and Lay-Readers Conferences.
    d) A course for Lay-Readers and their wives.
    e) Scripture Union Conferences.
    f) Youth Conferences.

Implementation Schedule

Phase 1

a) Short term 2001-2002 (2 years)
     Re-opening the office / staffing
b) Explosure of the management committee members to other Lay Centres.
c) Settlement of membership fee (Arreas) with ACLCA (Association of
    Christian Lay Centres in Africa)
d) Rehabilitation / Renovation of the existing basic structure / infrastructure
     namely:
        - Office building
        - Dormitories
        - Kitchen / Dining
        - Pit Latrine
        - Staff House
        - Hall
        - Electricity
e) Organize and carry out short courses, Seminars / workshops at the Centre, proposed are:
        - Sunday School Course
        - Balokole Seminars
        - Adult Education
        - Christian ethics and management
        - Environmental protection / Agro forestry
        - Primary health care
        - Seminars for school children on holiday
        - Youth courses
        - Mothers' Union courses
        - Church workers' refresher courses
        - Development courses
        - Aids seminars for youth and adults
        - Management courses
        - Function adult literacy (FAL) programme

Phase II

a) Medium term plan 2001 - 2004 (4 years) comprehensive
    I)      KTCC site planning
    II)     Fencing
    III)    Purchase / construction of a base house for the centre
    IV)   Means of transport and other communication facilities
    V)    Establish education project

Phase III

a) Long term plan 2001 - 2010 (10 years)
    I)    Construction of conference hall and KTCC houses
    II)    Establishment and consolidation of sustainable education and
           training programme
    III)   Expansion Dormitories
